Do's and Don'ts of a Pitch/Presentation

Do's and Don'ts of a Pitch/Presentation
Do's
standing and delivering the pitch: Stand up and give the pitch, talk as you should, you should not be sitting talking as if you were having chat, talk stand up straight an talk formally.

Preparing the pitch: practicing for pitch is key, you should practice it in variety of ways for example filming yourself presenting the pitch before hand and watching it to pic out the cons of the pitch and or the way you present and then improve upon them.

Emotion: Showing passion towards the pitch, not exactly shouting and saying you love the product but showing you actually care about the thing you are presenting will make you connect with your audience.

Timing:Whether you’ve been given 10 minutes or 10 seconds, deliver your pitch in the time you were given.

Professionalism: Don’t be fooled by a friendly, warm, welcoming atmosphere; a pitch is still a professional exercise. You need to strike the balance between being relaxed and being serious.

Don'ts

Verbal: do not talk in an improper  use it to fit the tone.

Timing: Never go over time, stay on time and try to use the correct time that use presentation deserves.

don’t get lost: stay on track with pitch you create know what you are fully pitching and make sure you know  what point you are trying to create and how you getting that point or product across.

Scene Editing Analysis

The history of film editing stretches back all the way to 1895 where the Lumiere Brothers had cinematographe which was the first real camera that could record moving imagery and project the footage. followed by that in 1901 Edwin S.Porter had been the first film maker to get and use the idea to film a sequence differently by filming a sequence and moving the camera. In film editing had been the first real source of editing before cutting film after it had been filmed for example in 1896 a film maker named Georges Méliès had been filming a bus going down a street but his camera appeared to have jammed, so he then attempted to film a carriage going down a road but later when he projected the footage, he realised that his camera jammed and he changed the image afterwards it looked like the bus had transformed into a carriage, creating the term know as 'jump cutting' later along in the world of film in 1920 had came what was known as Kuleshov Effect which had shown the first real representation of a film 'montage'  Editing has allowed films now a days has grown into something that allows audience to be more interested  in what is actually being translated on the screen through story telling aspects such narrative, actors shot variations/angles and many more. Films such as 'House of Darkness' by D.W Griffiths had in a way used these types of story telling methods by using fades and basic forms of editing such as cuts and transitions. But cinema over the years has clearly developed over years compared to this. These days the greatest debate in film which is problem the biggest transition film history is the Debate of Film and Digital. Ever since digital film editing had arrived in the late 90s ,the debate has lasted for over a decade now the general consensus of the debate is that film has always been the way we originally have always made movies and film makers still believe that its the more definitive way of filming, saying it looks better as a whole filmmakers such as Quentin Tarantino and  Christopher Nolan have both confessed their love for film rather than digital. But the majority of film makers in this decade are creating film digitally because for many reasons; for one  its a much easier process to film with digital, because with film can you record a whole session of scenes but you wont actually know what the film will entirely look like till the film has been formatted and printed but with digital you can already see what you are filming, it is easy knowing what will actually happen on camera and having that hindsight to see how you can improve, another reason is the expense of film, since film started becoming less popular its became a very rare entity and its very expensive to use on a production and for a final reason, filmmakers like to use digital because certain aspects cant be achieved through film because of certain aspects such as editing, lighting, colours and lots of on screen features. But as the debate still continues film seems to be dying as an aspect in the film industry. But as it stands many film makers are trying to keep film as an aspect in the 'Film' industry.

Immediately from the beginning of the scene we are given a establishing mid shot which shows Vinnie Jones character 'Bullet Tooth Tony' making a call to an unknown source, is then slightly panned to the left revealing three men in balaclavas thinking they are unknowingly approaching Tony, the shot is held continuously then is made into a tracking shot turning the shot into a an over the shoulder shot, showing the men directly speaking to Tony. The shot is then cut into another mid shot at the 0:38 mark showing the scenery of the pub they appear to be in, the fruit machine in a way stands out in this shot because its the only the only peace of scenery that has a different colour pallet, it having bright red and yellow buttons and lights.
this small sequence here effects the audience in the way that it builds tension between the the four characters, so when the scene finally gives

The confrontation cutting between mid shot to mid shot to show dialogue between the characters, it then abruptly shows one of the men is about to hit tony with his pistol, then quickly cuts into a close up tony twisting the mans arm and then a close up to the mans face like in distress, this occurs at the 0:47 mark this is also know as a match cut on action, this is the peak of tension with the audience slightly breaking it because we see tony is more in control now because the shot had shown that therefore had power for being able to defend himself comfortably then it once again builds up when the dialogue and the scene progresses. then an event occurs where tony is suddenly put into the more powerful position because of the monologue currently happening, it is then shown by the camera work that Tony now has power, this done by first of all by a shot reverse shot, then a pan to the left followed by a close up to the gun, followed by an extreme close up to the gun in a tilted shot the Gun's first letter R is then show it quickly pans to the left showing each individual letter spelling REPLICA. the shot is then reversed with 180 degree rule, to show the exact same affect but instead with Tony's Gun Spelling DESERT EAGLE .5 give the acquired effect the whole scene was setting up, this all climaxes by the 2:40 mark.

As this monologue had started from 1:00 minute and finished on the 2:40 mark. while tony was continuing to speak each time it cut back to men in the balaclavas the camera was zooming in as  the dialogue progressed reveling more each time it had zoomed in finally coming to its conclusion. A reaction shot is shown from all three of the men when all the monologue had ended. The POV shot is not used in this sequence but it is a shot which is used to show the perspective of the character through their own eyes making a better connection with the audience, it can also be a way of making the audience they are the character viewing this world through their eyes.
This sequence intrigues the audience so much because all these characters are featured throughout the majority of the story and this is is the first meeting between the characters, so when the tension is built because the film has built up to the meeting of these characters the tension filled sequence used through shots, angles and dialogue. This sequence of the film shows events actually happening which transpire in to more events which occur later in the film which tie in, this makes the audience become more intrigued as the sequence goes on.

Shot Variation

The first 3 minutes of the sequence contains mostly mid shots and close ups back and fourth between the characters. There is a match cut on action shot at 0:47 mark where a gun is shown being pulled back to it being grabbed by Tony.
Some long shots are used later into the sequence, for example at the 3:13 mark where the camera is slightly tilted show it can still keep the character 'Avi' in the frame into a mid shot whilst keeping the character 'Boris' in the frame as well in a long shot and 3:58 mark we see the two characters feeling in a long shot.

Cutting To Soundtrack
At the start of the sequence there is no use of soundtrack in anyway just diegetic, non-diegetic sounds and dialogue there is no use of the 'Soundtrack' until at the 2:37 point, where the verbal confrontation between Tony and the men is reaching its peak,  the soundtrack kicks in when the men come to a realisation shown by reaction shots, The drum beat of the song 'Ghost Town' by The Specials plays loudly over all the sound until the 2:48 mark where more dialogue comes in with the soundtrack playing in the background. This occurs again where the soundtrack cuts out as the dialogue "Avi Pull your socks up" occurs, this is because a load of gun fire is being used until the gunfire stops we introduced to a new song with the soundtrack coming back in once again at the 4:04 point playing the song "sensual women" until the scene ends. This is a good use of soundtrack for the audience because each singular song is placed in a moment that relates two the song or goes just fits the tone of the moment.

Construction of time and space
this sequence is set up like a three act it has three sections which are the 'Confrontation', 'The Realisation' and 'The Conclusion'. The Confrontation and The realisation take up the majoirty of the sequence, this is when the men attempt to ambush tony to when the dialogue finally ends putting tony in the power position, the aftermath of that situation is shown when the men attempt to steal the case of Avi and ends in a shoot out. This has a good effect audience because of  have how well paced it is and the amount of the tension which is built in the first two parts have a pay off with the shoot out occurring.

Parele editing/Cross Cutting
This is used briefly in the scene were Avi is being robbed by the men for his brief case, to then suddenly cutting to the othe room were you can see Tony is overhearing the confrontation between Boris, the men and Avi. until at the point were Tony finally interveens shouting "Avi Pull your socks up" This form of editing allows the viewer to be angaged beacuse they feel they are looking through the perspective of more than one chracter seeing multiple occurances all in one scene.

Montage

A montage is not used in this scene, but a montage is a collection of shots put together to create a story in small little aspect of time, a montage doesnt just have to show one chracter at can show mutiple at a time, it is probably most famous from the film 'Rocky' this type of editing was specifically used in this film to show rocky training for his big fight against 'apollo creed'  these scenes containrocky doing push ups, running, sparing and all sorts of training excersies followed by a inspirational soundtrack to make the viewer build anticpation for the final
fight the he is training for.

at the 3:07 there s multiple cutaways between the characters going , it starts off with the men trying to rob Avi, then to Tony over hearing the confrontation, it does this four times before tony finally interrupts the confrontation shooting up the other room through the walls.

Evaluation

For my second assignment for my media course, we were asked to do make a advert for a product of our choice that the company Unilever sells. My group had all decided mutually out of the three of us to make an advert for Flora, we had decided to do Flora cause we had all felt that out of the three of us Joe had the best and most original idea for an advert so we decided to pick flora, the current audience to Flora is middle aged people, who have families and main objective is to mainly to sell to people with families. We decided that we wanted to appeal to a student audience, between the ages of 16-21 we decided to pick this demographic because we felt that there is a quite large gap in that area.

I had collected the data but sending out a survey with link of the advert attached to it, asking 3 questions which summarised how well the advert was made and how effective it was. Telling from what feedback we had all received through a survey we had sent out to people who fit the demographic of what we were aiming for, we were quite pleased with what we had creative appealing to the audience wise, we knew we had appealed to our audience because we had only  sent out the survey to people who we aimed to appeal to, the vast majority of the feedback was positive which had showed us that we had achieved that target we set out to achieve audience wise.

after watching the advert  multiple times i have analysed some of the features which i found we had done well and in parts which could have been changed in the final cut.
Shots, angles and Shot Editing

I found that throughout the advert we do use various types of shots; such as the first shot of the advert a stilled frame mid shot is used, we used a low angled shot of me walking down the stairs at the 0:07  mark, a scenery shot close up panned right at the 0:22 mark, a zoom is used in 0:31 mark and a match on action shot is used at the  0:37 mark to name a few. SO i think we had used a fair amount of shots with the advert to keep some variety into the advert shots.

I think on the editing side with shots and angles was well done mostly, the split screen had been edited very well by us, we had matched up each action of the sequence on time when it had needed to be matched, but I think at some points some of the shots are slightly dragged out at points for example at the 0:27 - 0:35 mark, all three of us felt that it could of been shorted by 2 seconds or more but found difficulty in shortening it because of matching up the two screens side by side, we have managed to correct these type of mistakes in the advert by making 15 and 30 second versions of the advert that we had made after we had uploaded it.

Sound and use of sound editing
For the sound throughout, a song which i had devolped on garage band using samples was just used for the entire length of the advert, we did use the cutting of soundtrack at all throughout that we could of used with some diegetic sound or non diegetic sound for some different effect, we had used some a piece of diegetic sound at the 0:37 mark when the toast hits the plate. We could of edited the sound differently but we felt the advert was needed more visually accurate than sound.

I feel through the positive feedback and the quality we all felt we had all put out, the use of editing and shots we had used, successfully sold our product and got the message through that we set out to achieve, I felt that we had successfully made an advert which had appealed to the audience we set out to appeal to therefore successfully re-branding our Unilever product.

Beginners Guide To Editing

How to set up program before editing
Before you even go start any programs you have to log on using the room's log on it is username: mediaa, Password:mediaa, we use logins like this so we can protect the specific work from other people who may also use the required computer you are using
First of all you must have your footage that you wish to use for the project onto your computer from an SD card or any other drive you had stored the footage on. Make sure you put the footage onto the computer in a folder on the movies section of the documents also make sure the folder is named correctly and has three separate folders inside of the folder for footage, audio and sound.
Next you have to click on and startup Adobe Premier Pro. Click on start new project and then name the project. The program will start up and be ready to go.

usually all effects are usually in place and ready to be found via search bar but if not the panels needed for effects and other things, can be found in windows and the particular tool can be dragged down to the effects panel.

The footage can be found of the SD card or any other drive from on local drives folder in Premier Pro, the footage will be in the DCMI Folder

Next you will have to upload your footage; The footage can be found of the SD card or any other drive from on local drives folder in Premier Pro, the footage will be in the DCMI Folder to do organise the footage , first of all you must click on upload, then you have to go to movies and the folder which you had named after your project click on the desired footage, audio and sound  you want to put onto the project, rename footage and audio we do this so we can differ between what footage we want to use, usually from the good and the bad and to know what your uploading to the project off course do this after you have watched or listened to when this done you will be ready to put footage into the program and start cutting and editing footage.
